Goal first, then technology
Before talking about colours and systems, one simple question is worth asking: what should the website do for you? A trades business mainly wants to be found and called. A practice needs opening hours, services and a way to book an appointment. A retailer wants to sell. Almost everything else follows from this answer, including the price.
Which type of website suits you?
- OnePager: a single, well-structured page with everything important on it. Ideal for small businesses, freelancers and clubs that mainly want to be found.
- WordPress website: several subpages you can manage yourself, for example for services, team, references or job ads.
- Website with a shop: if you want to sell online, with WooCommerce, Shopware or Shopify, depending on your product range.
- Custom-built: developed from scratch when your site needs to do something no website builder can.
What does a website cost?
A reliable figure is only possible after a conversation, but here is a guide: with our offer bytebones, a OnePager starts at €179.90, a WordPress website at €399.90 and a website with a shop at €599.90, each one-off and plus VAT. On top come running costs for hosting and maintenance, from €9.90 per month. Many subpages, interfaces, several languages or elaborate design make it more expensive. With every quote, check whether hosting, backups and updates are included. A cheap website without maintenance often becomes expensive later.
What you should prepare
- Texts: who you are, what you offer and for whom. Bullet points are enough, we help with the wording.
- Images: your own photos almost always work better than stock images. If you have none, Funck Foto can take them.
- Domain and email: do you already have an address? Then we move it or set it up from scratch.
- Legal: in Germany an imprint and a privacy policy are mandatory. Only you know the details they need.
How a project works with us
In a free initial consultation we work out what you need. Then we agree on content and design, build the site on a test address you can look at any time, and launch it once you approve. A small company website is often ready within a few weeks. How long it takes depends mainly on how quickly texts and images are available.
And afterwards?
A website is never quite finished. Systems need updates, certificates expire, content goes out of date. We run our clients’ websites on servers we manage ourselves, in data centres in Germany, with daily encrypted backups at a second location. If you prefer to maintain the site yourself, we show you how. More under IT & Web.
